CHARTER: alt.binaries.celebrities.fake.moderated I. General: The alt.binaries.celebrities.fake.moderated newsgroup, herein after referred to as "the Newsgroup", has been established for the express purpose of providing a venue for the display, appreciation, discussion, and critique of digitally altered images of celebrities. In the most general terms, postings directly related to this objective, or to personal communication among members of this group which facilitate this objective, including the discussion of the elements of this charter will be considered to be "on topic". Postings not pertinent to these objectives will be considered "off topic", and will be posted at the sole discretion of the Newsgroup Moderator. II. Definitions: The following terms are to be interpreted as depicted here, unless defined otherwise in subsequent paragraphs: A. Moderator: The individual or mechanism responsible for review and approval of posts to the Newsgroup. B. Fakir: any individual who creates modified digital images of celebrities. C. Fake: A digital representation created by a Fakir. D. FakeFan: Any individual who access's the Newsgroup for the express purpose of enjoying the work done by Fakirs. E. Headshot: A digital picture of a celebrity to be employed in a fake. F. Baseshot: A digital picture (generally nude or erotic) employed as the "base" or "background" in creating a fake. G. Celebrity: A well known or famous person or model from television, movies, sports/athletes, or music industries. III On Topic Posts: Specifically, postings considered “on topic” include, but may not be limited to: A. Binary representations of celebrities either as finished works of parody or erotica. 1. All binary attachments will have either a .jpg, .jpeg, or .gif extension to them. This ensures that the binary post can be seen and viewed by the moderation software for Moderators approval/rejection. Binaries should be posted using the MIME Base64 encoding due to server problems with UUencoding. B. Text discussion and critique of said binary representations. 1. Criticism and discussion of a Fakir’s work should, in the interests of productive use of the Moderated Newsgroup resource, be pertinent to the work concerned, constructive in nature, and as specific as the skills of the critic/poster make possible. For example: “I really liked this fake overall, but I think the head was slightly out of scale to the body.” or, “I didn’t like this because the skin was chartreuse.” would be interpreted as a productive critique. “This sucks!”, on the other hand would not. 2. Positive comments are, of course, welcome in any form. Positive comments with specific content as to what makes a Fake “good”, however, can be as constructive and important to the artist concerned, and other artists, as are specific and constructive criticisms. C. Technical advice, examples, and tutorials intended to aid members of the Newsgroup in developing or improving their level of technical skill. D. “Social” conversation between members of this Newsgroup (note: It is preferred that lengthy social conversation between Newsgroup members be conducted employing such means as ICQ, e-mail, “reply to author” newsreader functions, and other similar mechanisms.) E. Information and discussion related to events which effect, or may effect, the pursuit of the artistic endeavor known as faking. Such posts may include changes to copyright law, efforts by celebrities to limit faking, availability of software, changes to software, or other general topics considered meaningful to the Newsgroup by the posters thereto and the Newsgroup Moderator. F. Textual parodies, jokes, and other forms of humor related to fakes and faking. G. Requests for new fakes of specific celebrities. It is recommended that such requests be accompanied by a useable Headshot. H. Requests for reposts of specific fakes, or fakes of a specific celebrity. I. URL's to Base Shots. It should be noted that posts by FakeFans are welcome and encouraged, so long as they adhere to the topic guidelines of this Newsgroup. Requesters of fakes of a specific celebrity are encouraged to include a headshot with their request. It should also be noted that it is expected that requests made to this newsgroup, to be posted, must comply with the guidelines established by this Charter. Requests for material which is outlined as unacceptable in this charter, or in the Newsgroup’s charter, will not be passed by the monitor. Requests for child pornography may subject the requester to criminal prosecution. “Off-Topic” posts may be passed to the Newsgroup, at the sole discretion of the Moderator. IV. Unacceptable Posts: The following types of posts will be considered unacceptable and will not normally be passed by the Moderator. A. Binary representations of minor children, defined as a person under eighteen years of age, including any and all depictions of erotica involving minor children. The term “age” in this instance, refers to the age of the individual subject of the Fake, at the time their photographic **likeness** was created. In the interests of clarity, and to restate, no representation of a minor child, at the time they were a minor child, will appear in any form whatever within this Newsgroup. It should be noted that an attempt to post material described in this paragraph may subject the poster to criminal prosecution. 1. Binary posts that do NOT include the extensions of .jpg, .jpeg or .gif. 2. Postings that include a .zip extension. The Moderation software site does not unzip those posts for the moderator's view, thus can't be verified as proper posts. 3. Binary posts that contain more than one attachment. 4. "Test" posts. There are many testing newsgroups to test your posting ability. If one is unsure that they are able to post to this group, respond to a message to see if your post goes through. B. Binary representations of non-celebrities. C. Binary representations of bestiality. D. Binary representations of cartoon characters, unless the poster holds the copyright to that character. E. Abusive or Inflammatory posts, commonly referred to as “flames”. F. Advertisements for products, services, or software, except where, in the judgment of the Moderator, such advertisements might be beneficial or useful. G. Any post including racial, religious, or ethnic slurs, or any post including threats of harm against any member of the Newsgroup. H. Binary representations of politicians or their family members, while in office. This includes but is not limited to Presidents, Kings, Queens, Princesses, Princes, etc. The Moderators are the final authority in determining if the person depicted is a violation of this section. I. Binary representations of known or suspected terrorists. J. Binary representations to be used as the Base Shot. The use of a URL to the Base Shot is most appropriate in this instance. V. The Role Of The Moderator A. By posting to this newsgroup, the poster agrees to indemnify and hold the moderator(s) harmless from any liability related to this newsgroup. B. The moderator will use his or her discretion to decide when discussions drift too far from the topics above, or if a participant would further benefit from: posting in a specialty newsgroup such as the public sister newsgroup alt.binaries.nude.celebrities.fake, e-mail, or real-time chat. The moderator may return a post, suggesting a more appropriate avenue, or post warnings when discussion starts to drift off-topic, and may close down discussions when they are clearly off-topic. The moderator will post a notice notifying the group of such actions. C. The moderator will have the discretion to add editorial comments to a post that he or she feels is inaccurate. For example: “Underage Celebrities may be posted here so long as they are not nude or portrayed in sexually explicit situations. [Moderator: This is wrong and a common misconception. See the Charter.]” D. Any poster making threats or suggestions of serious harm or legal action against a participant or moderator of this newsgroup will be blocked from posting to this group entirely. E. Posters blocked due to abuse or charter violations will remain ejected for a minimum of 1 month. VI. Moderator Selection and Replacement A. A moderator serves until he or she resigns. A moderator may resign at any time. A moderator is encouraged to give the group 14 days notice in order to insure an orderly transition. B. A moderator may designate a back-up moderator during vacation periods, as long as the group is given adequate notice. C. A sole moderator may appoint one or more co-moderators. Moderators may share their duties in any manner mutually acceptable. In the event that the group has multiple moderators, all references to the sole moderator in the above paragraphs shall apply to all of the moderators, collectively, if the context permits. D. A resigning moderator, whether the sole moderator or co-moderator, may select his or her successor. Moderators are encouraged to consider the opinions of readers of the group when choosing their successors. A resigning co-moderator may, with the unanimous consent of the other moderators, choose not to appoint a successor. NOTES: The ordering above is for convenience only and does not reflect a preference ordering among the various topics.
