Group submission address: rec-aviation-questions@peck.com Moderator contact address: rec-aviation-questions-request@peck.com (Geoff Peck) For your newsgroups file: rec.aviation.questions Aviation questions and answers. (Moderated) The charter, culled from the call for votes: The charter of rec.aviation.questions is to receive questions on aviation which might be answered in an simple and reasonably authoritative manner by one or a few of the many knowledgeable individuals we have on the net. Such questions, along with their answers, will be posted as a single article, to rec.aviation.questions and will be cross-posted to the appropriate unmoderated rec.aviation subgroup(s). This process will avoid having such questions answered many, many times by well-intentioned readers, sometimes correctly and sometimes incorrectly. Interested netters will be able to follow up to the original question and answer posting in the normal manner; these follow-ups will be directed to the appropriate unmoderated rec.aviation subgroup(s). OPERATIONAL DETAILS The "administrator" of this group will be geoff@peck.com. Mail addresses will be set up as follows: rec-aviation-questions@peck.com submissions rec-aviation-questions@uunet.uu.net submissions (reflector) rec-aviation-questions-request@peck.com administrative requests rec-aviation-questions-request@uunet.uu.net administrative req. (reflector) Short-names will also be available for these addresses: av-questions@peck.com submissions av-questions-request@peck.com administrative requests The mechanics of this group work as follows. The administrator will set up an automated distribution system (a "rotor") which will accept incoming questions and distribute them on a rotating basis to a designated group of volunteers ("answer-mavens"). These noble volunteers may: (a) Research and answer the question on their own, posting the question and its answer to rec.aviation.questions and to at least one other unmoderated rec.aviation.* subgroup, to which follow-ups will also be directed. (b) Forward the question to another individual for an answer. The idea would be to forward the question to someone who has particular expertise in the area of the question, typically an individual within this circle of "answer-mavens", but occasionally to a known outside source. (c) Decide that the question shouldn't be answered by an answer-maven but rather an open discussion should be started, in which case it will be posted to the approprate unmoderated rec.aviation group(s).
